Medford Preschool Flex Learning Plan

Hello Medford Preschool Families,

The Medford School District is prepared for the possibility to conduct student learning via alternative instructional methods which is becoming known as "flexible learning days" or "digital learning days." In other words, students would still have school even if inclement weather prevented them from being in the school building. Therefore, these days would count as a student contact day and would not have to be made up at a later date. The learning activities may include enrichment assignments, extensions to a current lesson or continuation of acquiring concepts and skills.

There are days where this type of learning is already happening. On days when teachers cannot be at school, they draft plans for student learning in their absence. When children are sick, plans and activities come to them via a take home folder or our online platforms that are used daily. Also, over the past 16 months we have also experienced a form of flexible learning as we moved in and out of digital learning due to COVID 19. Similarly, when weather prevents students and staff from being in person, our goal is to be able to continue their learning remotely by utilizing a flex (digital learning day). The announcement to transition to a flexible learning day will be made between 5:15 a.m - 5:30 a.m. the morning of. Ideally based on weather forecasts, we will prepare our students the prior day before they leave school with essential materials. The actual announcement will come in the form of an email and voicemail shortly after the decision is made.

**Above is how Medford School District is handing “Flexible Learning Days” or “Digital Learning Days”.  In preschool I am sending home a packet of Choice Board Ideas your child can do if you want to continue their learning even if we do not have school due to the weather.  These choice boards are hand on activities that are an extension of activities that we would be working on in the classroom.

**You also receive a monthly calendar that tells you the letter of the week we are working on and you can access the book on youtube.com if you choose to do that.  Go to youtube.com and put in AlphaTales and then the letter that we are working on and the book will come up.  Your child can watch that to extend their learning also.

**Every day at school we sing and do the movement to Dr. Jean Alphardy.  You can access that on youtube.com and extend your child’s learning at home also.

**If your child wants to they can send me a picture on Seesaw or to my email if they did any learning they want to share with me.   You are not required to do anything but this is merely an extension of the classroom learning to keep your child’s knowledge increasing to get them on the road to being ready for kindergarten.
