Medford Elementary's Reading Program offers a Multi Tiered System of Support for all students.  We use our Standardized Testing Data collected from STAR and FastBridge screeners to determine which tier of support each of our students needs.  These screeners are conducted at least three times during the school year.

Tier One:
Students falling into tier one receive reading instruction from their classroom teacher through small group and whole group instruction.  We currently use the Journeys ELA curriculum to meet the needs of our Tier One students.

Tier Two:
These students receive an intervention in a small group setting with either myself, or one of our Title One support staff.  Students participating in these small groups receive interventions specific to their learning needs,  in addition to the reading instruction delivered in their classrooms.
In  tier 2, parent support is a key component  to the success of the program.  Students are encouraged to practice the skills they are working on at home.  Opportunities and ideas for practice are sent home weekly.

Tier Three:

These students receive a more intensive intervention in a 1:1 setting.  Goals are set, and progress is monitored regularly to determine whether or not the interventions are successful.  Students in tier three may also be getting support in a small group setting, in addition to the 1:1 and whole group instruction.
