Mrs. Sara Markham

Hi Everyone!

My name is Sara Markham, and I can't wait to be your 2nd grade teacher! I am originally from Medford, my maiden name is Sara Elzen. I attended Minnesota State University Moorhead where I received a degree in Elementary Education and a Special Education Certificate in 2011.  I started my career teaching in Kasson-Mantorville for 2 years, then we moved to Medford.  I have been teaching at Medford since 2013.  I attended and graduated from St. Mary's University with my Masters in Curriculum Instruction in December 2019, so I feel I am ready to jump into any area of teaching.  I have taught in third, first, and now second grade at Medford.  This is going to be my 6th year of teaching 2nd grade.  Bouncing around in different grade levels keeps my lessons fresh and exciting.  Plus I have developed a deeper understanding of child development within the education system. I am so excited to be working with these fabulous second graders this year. We will we become a tight knit, little family before the year is done. I love getting to know each student and what makes them tick.  I like to learn their personalilities and how they learn best.  The most important thing I establish is a connection with each child!

My husband, Kelly, and I live in Medford.  We have 3 children.  Bennett is our busy body that keeps us entertained. Our 2nd son is Hudson, he is trying to keep up with his big brother and is the happiest little guy!  Lily is the sweetest little lady that just goes with the flow.  I am sure you will see us out and about in town throughout the year.  We own a land shark.  His name is Quinn, he is a white lab that will eat anything in front of him.  He also likes roll on anything he can find, but he is our furry best friend and we love him so!  Chasing chickens is now a daily occurrence at our house, we have 5 hens.  Luckily, it gave us some physical activity during the summer. We spent the summer swimming, gardening, swimming, biking, swimming, and a little bit of traveling. When I am not in school I love to read, scrapbook, go to the cabin, garden, and spend time with family and friends.
